Nepal, the mountainous kingdom in the Himalaya’s, was my dream destination since my mid twenties. It took me years to finally reach it for the first time in 1999 but I did immediately fell in love with this exceptional country, it’s breathtaking mountains and it’s heart warming people. Since then I came back many times for different reasons: for hiking through the mountains, as tourleader and on my own, for volunteering half an year and to visit local friends.
The devastating 2015 earthquake did shock the world and leave deep wounds in the country itself. 3 years after the disaster the restauration on houses and historical buildings is shockingly poor. Many of the victims still live in corrugated iron shacks and improvised homes. Desert heat in the summer, harsh cold in the winter. Where have the millions of foreign aid disappeared?
